Gateway85 CID has added more than 20 miles of sidewalks, creating a connected, accessible and visually appealing district that benefits businesses, residents and visitors. These infrastructure improvements enhance mobility throughout the area, attract foot traffic, support local businesses and contribute to the district’s overall growth. With each sidewalk addition, Gateway85 reinforces its commitment to building a walkable community that drives both economic and community engagement, ensuring a thriving environment for everyone in the district.

Recently Completed Sidewalk Projects

Oakbrook Parkway – Completed October 2024

In October 2024, Gateway85 CID celebrated the completion of the Oakbrook Parkway sidewalk project, a significant enhancement funded by the 2014 and 2017 SPLOST programs. This sidewalk, along a major business corridor, increases pedestrian safety and accessibility, benefiting employees, customers and district visitors. At the project’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, Gwinnett County DOT Director Lewis Cooksey, District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku, Gateway85 Executive Director Emory Morsberger and Director of Operations Robert Michener underscored the importance of this initiative for the local economy and safety.

Oakbrook Parkway has long been an essential part of Gateway85 CID’s history, as local businesses first united here to prevent a proposed waste dump nearly two decades ago. The new sidewalk marks another milestone in Gateway85’s commitment to fostering a walkable, appealing environment that benefits business and property owners by enhancing accessibility and safety throughout the district.

Meadowcreek High School – Completed August 2024

In August 2024, Gateway85 CID completed a new 600-foot sidewalk on Steve Reynolds Boulevard in front of Meadowcreek High School, transforming a decades-old footpath. Built by CID partner Curb Tech for $35,000, this project fills a critical gap by connecting existing sidewalks and providing a safer, more reliable pathway for the nearly 3,000 students at the school, 20% of whom walk daily. This addition not only enhances safety but also improves the appearance and accessibility of this high-traffic area—an investment that reflects the CID’s dedication to enhancing district value.

“Gateway85 is proud to support Meadowcreek High School by providing safe, accessible infrastructure for students and residents alike,” said Robert Michener, Director of Operations for Gateway85 CID. “Projects like this are critical to building a more connected community, supporting future generations and fostering growth within our district.”
